Brookdale hosting Drag Queen Story Hour
The event is part of their Bring Your Child to Work Day Celebration.
Lincroft - Brookdale Community College will be hosting popular drag queen Harmonica Sunbeam as part of it’s Bring Your Child to Work Day celebration. A leaked agenda for the day was seen across Facebook in multiple groups.
The drag queen has made rounds across New Jersey hosting multiple story hours geared towards minor children and their parents. He was even listed as No. 87 on Insider NJ’s Top 100 LGBT Power List.
Their Instagram page is a mix of story hour evangelism with left-leaning political advocacy. A June 2020 video shows the performer at a Black Lives Matter rally.
Sponsored by the Director of Diversity and Inclusion/CCOG, the Drag Queen will read Thelma the Unicorn, a children’s book that is geared towards ages 3-6 depicting a pony who wishes to be a unicorn with subtle transgender overtones. It is in the process of becoming a feature film on Netflix in May.
It is a closed event for Brookdale students and employees.
UPDATE - 4/24/2024: Thanks to the responsiveness of Monmouth County leaders and elected officials, Drag Queen Story Hour has been cancelled for tomorrow’s event as of 5:30 PM EST. We initially broke the story at 4:40 PM EST.
