Geoghegan Challenges Rodrick to Raise House of Worship Zoning to 10 Acres
“Its time for the mayor to put up or shut up about Lakewood Style Development," says the lifelong Republican.
Toms River - Former Council President Kevin Geoghegan, currently a Republican candidate for the Ward 2 Council seat, today called for Mayor Daniel Rodrick to raise the Township’s zoning for houses of worship to 10 acres.
“Mayor Rodrick has been making an issue of house of worship zoning for years, blaming me and former Mayor Mo Hill for the proliferation of ‘Lakewood Style Development’ in town because we lowered the zoning from 10 acres to 2, rather than face losing lawsuit by the U.S. Department of Justice,” says Geoghegan. A large portion of Rodrick’s campaign platform was spent railing against overdevelopment.
“Mayor Rodrick has not been shy about overturning several initiatives of the Hill Administration. But to date, he has not taken any action on this zoning issue that has been the highlight of several of his campaigns, says Geoghegan. In a recent campaign mailer written by Rodrick opponent, 82-year old William Byrne, the mayor blames Geoghegan and former Mayor Hill for the zoning change.
For Geoghegan, it’s time Dan Rodrick decides to act.
“It’s time for Mayor Rodrick to put up or shut up on this issue. He is in charge. He has complete control of the council," said Geoghegan who later issued a challenge to Rodrick.
”I challenge the mayor and Council President Craig Coleman to put an ordinance of the agenda of the next council meeting to change the house of worship zoning back to 10 acres.”
The next meeting of the Toms River Township Council will take place on May 22, 2024 at 7PM EST.
