Middletown to unite with Israeli sister city in 2025
Mayor Perry welcomes the new year by signing a sister city pact to unite the two cities.
Middletown - Mayor Tony Perry will be kicking off 2025 by signing a sister city pact with Ofakim, Israel. On Monday, January 6th, Perry alongside the Jewish Federation of Greater MetroWest, NJ, and various federal, state, and county officials will welcome Ofakim Mayor Itzik Danino in Middletown’s courtroom to celebrate the momentous occasion.
This sister city agreement, which will be the first one in Middletown’s history, will represent the two cities’ commitment to fostering cultural, educational, and economic bonds. Both cities have also served as beacons of hope amidst darkness in their respective regions of the world, with Middletown suffering through the horrors of September 11th’s terrorist attacks and Ofakim suffering attacks from Hamas on October 7th, 2023. Perry was part of a delegation that visited war-torn Israel in January of 2024 where he met Mayor Danino.
As a result of their communities’ experiences with terrorism and grief, Mayor Perry and Mayor Danino quickly built a friendship which will now unite their respective homes for generations to come.
The ceremony will take place in the Main Meeting Room (Courtroom) at Town Hall (1 Kings Highway, Middletown). Parking will be available in the main lot on the Town Hall side of the building (not at the police station).
