Monmouth University GOP chair elected to lead NJ Federation of College Republicans
Chairman Jacky Bruno joins a growing list of Monmouth leaders to land a statewide leadership post.
Monmouth County - Jacky Bruno, current Chair of the Monmouth University College Republicans, has been elected to be the next chairman of the New Jersey Federation of College Republicans. Bruno cruised to victory in a closed convention this evening. A dedicated conservative activist and junior at Monmouth University, Bruno quickly grew his chapter into the largest in the state during the 2023-2024 academic year.
When asked what his plan was in leading the state federation over the course of his term, Bruno stated “I want to replicate what we’ve done at Monmouth University: creating a culture of community, communication, and, most importantly, excitement. Without those 3 elements, nothing would have been accomplished.”
“We will be focusing heavily on coalition building,” said Bruno, pledging to deliver an active student presence in the Presidential election this year and in the gubernatorial race in 2025. Bruno added that his goal is to “continue to charter and build chapters at every institution of higher education across New Jersey.” Bruno’s plan to encourage other chapter chairs to focus on previously overlooked populations on their campuses, such as the Greek community and athletic teams, has been met with warm reception.
Bruno is the second Monmouth County-based chairman, and the fourth Monmouth-based leader, who assumed a statewide leadership post in the last year. Monmouth Young Republicans chairman Michael Manning was elected to the New Jersey Young Republican’s top post earlier this year. Current New Jersey GOP Executive Director Theresa Velardi and her predecessor, Tom Szymanski, previously served as Monmouth County Republican Committee directors.
“I am immensely grateful for the thoughtful mentorship provided by County Chairman Shaun Golden and Co-Chair Christine Hanlon.” Bruno emphasized that “our accomplishments as a chapter would have been impossible without their support and that of my team at Monmouth University and all of my dedicated members.”
Giavanna Cangialosi, Monmouth University’s current Vice Chair, will be taking over Bruno’s role during the 2024-2025 academic year. “I have complete faith that Ms. Cangialosi will maintain the values and culture that I fostered and will launch them to new heights under her leadership.”
“I can’t wait to see how Jacky leads the state federation,” said Cangialosi. “He has done a fantastic job of mobilizing our chapter at Monmouth during such an important election year, and I know that he is capable of accomplishing that statewide.”
The New Jersey Federation of College Republicans comprises many universities statewide and focuses on creating opportunities for college students to build relationships and be civically involved.
