Monmouth's Mastropiero fails to disclose donations, expenditures
The Democratic candidate for Monmouth County Commissioner, an attorney, may have violated election law.
Colts Neck - The Monmouth County Republican Committee filed a complaint with the Election Law Enforcement Commission (“ELEC”) alleging that Democrat county commissioner candidate Danielle Mastropiero has expended significant funds on campaign materials that would far exceed the $5,800 campaign expenditure threshold she committed to per her Sworn Statement (“Form A-1”) filed with ELEC.
Based upon the amount of campaign material that Mastropiero has put out in this campaign, she would be required to file the form R-1 which she has not done. Current ELEC filings seem to suggest that Mastropiero is failing to disclose donors, donations, and expenditures.
“Mastropiero’s expenditures clearly exceed $5,800 yet she seems to want to hide who is making donations to her campaign, the amounts of those donations and what the expenditures are,” said Anthony Guzzone, Executive Director of the Monmouth County Republican Committee. “Mastropiero has sent a county wide newspaper, produced palm cards, yard signs, a website, and social media accounts. These items are expensive and the public needs to know who is paying for them.”
“Transparency is fundamental if you want to be an elected official. It’s a shame, but not surprising, that Ms. Mastropiero failed to disclose these expenditures. This not just a matter of transparency, but also of competence. Monmouth residents deserve better of someone with a legal background,” said Commissioner Sue Kiley. “She is clearly not fit to lead our great County when she seems to have chosen to violate one of the most basic campaign finance laws.”
Mastropiero is an attorney with Levinson Axelrod, per her Linkedin profile.
