READ IT: Gov. Murphy Issues Letter to Bus Companies Carrying Illegal Migrants
The Governor has asked for at least 32 hours notice before their arrival among other requests.
Governor Phil Murphy sent a letter to several charter bus companies connected with the recent deliveries of illegal migrants from Texas and Louisiana into New Jersey. Similar to Mayor Eric Adams’ Executive Order issued on December 27, 2023, Gov. Murphy asks that charter bus companies making their way to the Garden State give the Office of Emergency Management at least 32 hours notice before the time of arrival, among other details.
Over 1,800 individuals have arrived at transit sites in New Jersey since the beginning of 2024. While most immigrants have made their way into New York City, charter bus operators have expressed unwillingness to transport their passengers into the Big Apple according to Mayor Adams’ Executive Order.
“We cannot allow buses with people needing our help to arrive without warning at any hour of day and night,” said Adams during his announcement.

The letter is delivered in the wake of backlash faced by Edison mayor Sam Joshi for his fierce criticism of migrants arriving in Edison. In a statement to the New Jersey Monitor, Joshi said” they're illegal, and they belong on the other side of the border. We don't want them in Edison, period. That's the bottom line.”
He also said he would order the city's police department to charter a bus and take migrants to "the other side of the border."
